What Is 4-H?
In 4-H, the largest youth development organization in the world, children from urban, suburban and rural communities learn valuable life and work skills in areas such as leadership, teamwork, citizenship, goal setting, communications, decision making and much more. The mission of 4-H is to prepare youth to become independent and contributing members of society by providing them with the tools they need to be successful. Hundreds of dedicated volunteers and leaders serve as mentors and role models to 4-H youth throughout the state. Last year, the 4-H program contributed to the dreams and potential of over 22,000 young people in Massachusetts through clubs, summer camps, community-based activities and afterschool programs. The 4-H motto “learn by doing" is put into practice through experiential learning activities for 4-H members.
4-H is one of four program areas of UMass Extension, part of the Center for Agriculture at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Visit www.mass4h.org for program information, registration materieals for 4-H programs and events and the 4-H calendar of events.
